Environmental Site Assessment and RemediationRisk Assessment
Risk Assessment
CRA has offered Risk Assessment services since the inception of the process in the late 1970s. The primary purpose of the Risk Assessment process at that time was the characterization of risk to identify the potential need for remedial action. With the advancement of risk assessment methodologies over the years, the use of risk assessments has also changed. The risk assessment process is now also used to focus environmental capital spending in areas providing the most benefit to human health and the environment, and to develop site specific cleanup goals. As such, risk assessment and risk management are now integrally linked in current decision-making.
The successful resolution of environmental issues while operating a profitable business is a key management challenge in today's business world. The key is to understand the impacts of chemicals in the environment on human health and ecological resources. However, government stipulated methods for evaluating risk are overly conservative and do not provide proper insight to the decision maker. CRA's team of risk assessment scientists and engineers (including environmental scientists, toxicologists, ecologists, hydrogeologists, fate and transport modeling experts, and remedial design engineers) provides our clients with technical information so they can make clear and informed decisions with respect to the assessment of potential human health and ecological risks, and management strategies to mitigate risks that could be above acceptable levels. CRA's risk assessment team specializes in both the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of risks to human health and the environment.
