Steel Inspection Services

The modern uses of structural steel construction involve rapid construction rates and various applications made to last for many years.  The key for durability is proper realization according to the standards.  CRA has performed structural steel inspections over many years on various structures such as bridges, office towers and other multi-storey buildings, warehouses, tanks, and pipelines, among others.  CRA has built a reputable and experienced team of steel inspectors!

Our technical staff is certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau (Levels I, II, and III) and by the ONGC (nondestructive testing, ultrasound, magnetic particles, and dye penetrant Levels I and II).

Inspection Services

• Shop and site inspection including verification of shop, welding supervisor and welder certifications, and welding data sheets
• Supervision of shop fabrication including visual inspection of welds, non-destructive testing (ultrasound, magnetic particles, dye penetrant), monitoring of welding work, mill test verification with specifications, and follow-up on fabrication schedule
• Site inspection during erection of steel structure including plumbness of columns, bolt grade and torque, steel deck installation (gauge, welding and mechanical anchors), on-site welding, structural modifications
• Filed surveys and preparation of plans with structural details
• Welding inspection of flash butt welding on rails
• Determination of steel grade of existing structures using non-destructive testing
• Hardness testing (in lab and on site)
• Yield strength testing of rebar and structural steel samples
